What an introduction to the 2022 NFL season! Between the chaos in the early games to some surprises later in the evening, football is back in full force. While the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks wrap things up Monday night, what matchups are on the horizon for the NFL schedule in Week 2? Here’s a breakdown of who plays when, as well as some of the high-profile matchups this week.
Week 2 NFL schedule
The Week 2 NFL schedule sees a major variance from the opening weekend. The beginning of the schedule follows the typical NFL week until Monday night. NFL fans will be treated to a Monday night doubleheader with ESPN and ABC splitting broadcasting duties for the games. Despite it being just the second week, the results from Week 1’s matchups thrust a few games on the Week 2 NFL schedule into the must-watch territory.
It all starts on Thursday night as the Los Angeles Chargers head to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Kansas City Chiefs. Both AFC West foes won their season openers in what should be a tightly contested season within the division. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Chargers QB Justin Herbert picked up where they left off last season and looked primed to make an MVP push. The Week 2 AFC West showdown should showcase the best the stacked division has to offer very early in the season.
Let’s move to Sunday where a rematch from the 2021 season will take center stage at 1 p.m. ET. Flashback to Week 10 of last season and the Miami Dolphins were scraping by following a measly 2-7 start. They then played the best game of the season at Hard Rock Stadium completely shutting down the Baltimore Ravens 22-10. Now back to the present time, both franchises impressed in Week 1. Will the Dolphins’ defense be able to shut down Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense in back-to-back games?
The final marquee matchup of the Week 2 NFL schedule focuses on the latter of the Monday Night Football games. The Minnesota Vikings took Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers out of any rhythm the back-to-back MVP had from the past two seasons.
Meanwhile, QB Jalen Hurts had the Philadelphia Eagles moving all day against Detroit. Hurts and RB Miles Sanders combined for 186 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Rookie head coach Kevin O’Connell will hope the Vikings’ defense is up to the task again when they head to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Eagles. Here’s a look at the rest of the Week 2 NFL schedule.
