Speaking to Variety, Johansson gave details about her lawsuit against Disney over Black Widow. According to the Marvel star, she was “saddened and disappointed” by Disney’s response to the lawsuit. At the time, the studio issued a statement criticising the actress for her disregard for the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

After Johansson was paid more than $40 million for the lawsuit, as she had a clause that Black Widow had to be released exclusively in cinemas, the star revealed that she received a lot of support from friends and strangers.

“I was sad and disappointed, but mostly sad. It was such a surreal time because we were all isolated and coming out in dribs and drabs. I was also pregnant, which in a weird way was an incredible moment. Suddenly, all your attention is directed to this miracle of life. So, I had the most wonderful distraction in the world and shortly after I had a beautiful baby,” Johansson recalled.

She added: “I couldn’t even walk through a restaurant without someone saying, ‘Good for you. Stand up for yourself. I could see it had a good impact on people. I had support from strangers who had nothing to do with the game.

While Johansson’s situation with Disney at the time did not end on good terms, a possible return of the actress to the UCM would not face any backlash from the studio. At the time of the lawsuit, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was reportedly “angry and embarrassed” by the situation.

Johansson has since remained attached to Disney and is producing the studio’s Tower of Terror film, which is based on the popular Disney theme park attraction. Given her ongoing working relationship with Disney, there would be no problem with the actress returning as Black Widow in the future. However, Johansson herself could be the one preventing this from happening.
