Road House remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal officially announced: first details

The film will be available for streaming on Prime Video upon release.

A new remake of Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal is coming directly to Amazon Prime Video.

The movie will be a remake of the original 1989 film about a professional bouncer who saves a small town from local bullies. The remake will begin production later this month in the Dominican Republic.

The Road House remake follows Gyllenhaal’s character, a former UFC fighter, who takes a job as a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys. But “he soon discovers that all is not what it seems in this tropical paradise.”

Doug Liman, who has worked on The Bourne Affair, Edge of Tomorrow and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, will direct. The screenplay is written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry of Two Nice Guys. The rest of the cast includes No Time to Die’s Billy Magnussen, Suicide Squad’s Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle and others.

The original Road House movie starred Patrick Swayze as the roving bouncer who arrives in Jasper, Missouri, to clean out the Double Deuce bar of corrupt businessmen. The original also starred Kelly Lynch and Ben Gazzara.

This isn’t the first time a Road House remake has been in the works. In 2015, UFC champion and actress Ronda Rousey was set to star in a remake of Road House. That film never saw the light of day. To learn more, you can check out our list of the best action movies of the 1980s.
