Presidential primaries and caucuses are underway in the United States to select the Republican Party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential election.

These Republican Party primaries will take place in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five US territories between January and June 2024, with the Republican National Convention scheduled for July in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Notable candidates in the race include former president Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Ron DeSantis and others.

Trump is the favorite to win the Republican Party Primaries
The former United States president is the frontrunner, but DeSantis initially posed a challenge before his polling numbers fell.

With over 300 candidates filing with the Federal Election Commission, this primary is seen as a “race for second”, due to Trump’s consistent lead.

If Trump secures the nomination and wins the general election, he would be the first president to serve non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland.

During a rally in New Hampshire back in October, Trump likened himself to Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid activist, by portraying himself as a victim of what he claims are politically motivated investigations by federal and state prosecutors targeting him and his businesses.

“I don’t mind being Nelson Mandela because I’m doing it for a reason,” Trump said.

“We’ve got to save our country from these fascists, these lunatics that we’re dealing with.

“They’re horrible people and they’re destroying our country.”

The first of the Republican Party primaries is in Iowa on January 15, 2024, while the last on the schedule are the ones in Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota, all scheduled for June 4.

Often in these kinds of races, one candidate becomes the clear winner before all the primaries are held, meaning it’s impossible to know the date on which we’ll definitely know the 2024 Republican presidential nominee.
