Release date for Pixel 7a, which could be Google’s latest cheap phone

Google I/O takes place next week, on 10 May, and as usual. Many of the announcements that will be made have already leake. On this occasion. In addition to Android and cloud news, we expect hardware announcements. Such as the new Pixel Tablet or possibly the foldable Pixel Fold.

When the Pixel 7a will arrive
But probably of all these devices the most anticipated is the Pixel 7a, and for good reason. Google’s “a” models have proven to be the best value of the entire range, offering a very similar experience to the full-featured models, but at a much lower price point. It’s the perfect definition of a bargain, and after seeing how good the Pixel 6a is even months after its launch, a Pixel 7a makes perfect sense.

The good news is that we won’t have to wait long to enjoy this new model. Google itself has “leaked” the launch date, which will be 11 May, the day after the Google I/O keynote presentation.

The ‘culprit’ behind the leak was Google’s India division, which posted on its Twitter account that the new Google phone will be available in one of the country’s retail chains on Thursday next week. Therefore, we can assume that the rest of the countries will also receive the phone. At the same time, although there is always the possibility that Google delays the launch in some countries. It wouldn’t be the first time Spain treate in this way.

Another leak, this time unofficial, is the first official images of the Pixel 7a, which confirm what we already knew: it will be a phone very similar to the regular Pixel 7, both in design and features as it uses the same Google Tensor G2 processor. It will therefore be able to use functions such as up to 8x zoom based on algorithms. Compared to the Pixel 6a, there will be hardware improvements such as a display that now reaches 90 Hz, and a 64 Mpx main camera (up from 12 Mpx in the previous generation). The selfie camera has also been upgraded to 13 Mpx.

And now comes the bad part: the Pixel 7a could be the last model in Google’s “a” series. This is not official, but a rumour that is circulating on social networks and that we should take with a grain of salt. According to Android Headlines, the person who leaked this information claims that from the next generation onwards, Google will focus on the regular Pixel and Pixel Pro as the only two models available, so there won’t be a Pixel 8a; the reason may lie in the Pixel Fold, which would occupy Google’s attention from now on as a new alternative model to the main ones.
