This equals US$ 440 million, which will be distribute in each of the stages of the tournament: groups, round of 16, quarter-finals, third and fourth places, and the World Cup final.

At a briefing in April, FIFA gave teams details of the prizes they would receive for their participation in the tournament in Qatar.

For starters, the body noted that “all teams will receive US$1.5 million before the competition to cover expenses related to preparations”.

Figures were also release broken down by phase:

Teams that stay in the group stage get US$ 9 million.
Those who reach the Round of 16, US$ 13 million
Those who finish in the quarter-finals, US$ 17 million.
World Cup fourth place, Morocco, US$ 25 million
Third place, Croatia, US$ 27 million
The runner-up, France, gets US$ 30 million
And the Qatar 2022 champion, Argentina, will earn US$ 42 million.
So, just participating in this year’s World Cup will secure the teams US$ 1.5 million and US$ 9 million if they finish in the group stage, meaning each team will get at least US$ 10.5 million for playing in Qatar.
