Dave Hollis, former Disney distribution chief turne self-help. Author and lifestyle influencer, died on Saturday, Feb. 11, at age 47.

No cause of death has yet been reporte. Hollis’ family said in a statement that he die peacefully at home in Austin and that he’d been recently hospitalize for cardiac issues.

Hollis rose to prominence in 2011 when he began his tenure as theatrical distribution head of Disney. Overseeing massive franchises including Marvel Studios’ Avengers and Star Wars, as well as the smash animated feature Frozen.

Under Hollis’ direction, Disney became the first film studio. Ever to surpass $7 billion in global box office grosses in a single year for 2016.

Despite his success in the corporate world, Hollis is likely best known. Helping launch the career of his estranged wife, author and lifestyle influencer Rachel Hollis.

In 2018, he left his post at Disney to relocate to Austin with Rachel as she launched her empire stemming from her viral fame and the success of her first book, Girl. Wash Your Face. After it became a bestseller, the Hollises went on to produce conferences (many for multi-level marketing companies). Podcasts and other media devoted to their message of what is now largely considere toxic positivity through The Hollis Company.

Their brand began a multi-million dollar venture, The New York Times reported in 2019. The same year, Dave left The Hollis Company.

In 2020, Dave and Rachel Hollis announced their separation in a joint statement on Instagram.

After their split, Dave went on to become a lifestyle influencer and author in his own right, releasing self-help tomes Get Out of Your Own Way: A Skeptic’s Guide to Growth and Fulfillment and Built Through Courage: Face Your Fears to Live the Life You Were Meant For and the children’s book Here’s to Your Dreams!: A Teatime with Noah Book.

Following his divorce, Dave began a relationship with fitness influencer Heidi Powell, with whom he partnered to launch their Get Fit community.

Dave Hollis, a former Disney executive who served as the company’s president of worldwide distribution until resigning in 2018, died Saturday night at his home in Austin, Texas. He was 47 years old.

Hollis was hospitalized recently due to heart-related health problems. But the precise cause of their death is yet to be determined.

After Chuck Viane retired, Hollis assumed the position of Disney’s theatrical distribution chief in 2011. During his tenure, the studio achieve some of its biggest box office hits, including films from Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and Pixar, along with remakes of animated classics and new animated features.

Hollis’ resignation from Disney in 2018 was unexpected, given the significant accomplishments that were achieved under his leadership. He was well-regarded in the industry and represented Disney in a friendly and approachable manner. Following his departure from the studio and California, Hollis became the CEO of Chic Media, a Texas-based production company founded by his then-wife, Rachel Hollis. The couple has since divorce.
